Christian Formation for Children

Wonder Circle:

9:30 – 11 a.m.
Ages 3 – 5

Wonder Circle teaches our youngest children the art of using religious language, while helping them become more fully aware of God’s presence in their lives. It is a safe space for children—a space where we focus on the spiritual development of each child as an individual, and where their ideas, opinions and gifts are deeply respected.

We begin with CIRCLE time, sharing music, prayer and storytelling done in the “Godly Play” style. Next, we WONDER together, allowing the children to use their imaginations to go deeper into the story. We then invite them to respond to the story through art or play.

Finally, we return to the Circle to experience “the Light” as we hear words from the Bible, after which the children prepare, bless and enjoy a “feast” together. They then join their families in “big church” in time for the Sign of Peace and the Eucharist.

Discovery Disciples:
9:30 – 11 a.m.
1st – 3rd Grad

In the Discovery Disciples class, we continue the Godly Play format, but DISCOVER more as we go deeper into the New Testament Stories and walk alongside Jesus and his DISCIPLES. The children continue their discovery through art, journaling or interacting with the story.

We also learn about our worship service and even write our own prayers. We then use this as part of our own chapel service each week before we join our families in “big church” at the Peace.

Faith & Friends:
9:30 – 10:20 a.m.
4th – 5th Grade

The shorter Faith & Friends class allows older children to join their families for the entire 10:30 a.m. service, where they can volunteer to serve as acolytes if they choose.

The lessons in this class build upon earlier classes to provide a solid foundation of Christian, Biblical and Episcopal Church teachings and traditions. Emphasis is on beliefs and behaviors as we delve more deeply into the Bible and Prayer Book, learning how to use them and what key lessons, prayers and creeds mean in modern words. Children also meet the Gospel writers and Paul.
