Nestled in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, Greenville, South Carolina is a vibrant city offering many urban experiences and comforts while still maintaining its small-town charm and hospitality.
Natural Resources
Part of the majesty of Greenville is thanks to the natural resources of upstate South Carolina. The many state parks and heritage nature preserves support our outdoor culture of cycling, mountain biking, hiking, camping, kayaking, boating and skiing. Greenville is a magical corner of the United States where you can drive to the mountains in less than an hour and to the beautiful coast within three.
Things to Do
There are so many things to do in Greenville! From walks on the 22-mile Swamp Rabbit trail to attending Broadway performances at the Peace Center, there are enriching experiences for every person of every age.
Our safe and beautiful downtown offers great shopping and dining. Esquire magazine called Greenville the “Next Big Food City of the South.” Over 85% of the restaurants within Greenville would be considered local, with Persian, German, Lebanese, Indian, Italian, Farm-to-table and of course, Southern Cuisine. A farmer’s market takes over Main Street in the spring and summer, and in September the city hosts Euphoria, a festival celebrating local food, wine and music.
There are many other festivals and special activities, too: Artisphere (May), Scottish Games (Memorial Day), BMW Charity Pro-Am (July), Fall for Greenville (October), and during the holidays: the annual holiday parade, The Nutcracker, and Ice on Main (skating rink).
Furman, Bob Jones, Greenville Technical College, North Greenville University and USC Upstate Greenville are part of our thriving community, which creates extra opportunities for theatre, speaking and sporting events.
Professional Sports Teams
Beyond collegiate sports, Greenville is home to several professional teams: The Single A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox, The Greenville Drive, the Greenville Swamp Rabbits hockey team and the Greenville Triumph and Liberty soccer teams.
Industry & Education
The upstate of South Carolina is home to many international companies, such as General Electric, Michelin and BMW, who have also partnered with the city to invest in its growth and economic development. There are numerous colleges, universities, and continuing education institutions in or proximate to Greenville (including Clemson University). In 2022, 72% of Greenville County Schools were rated Excellent or Good on their State Report Cards.
